First Impressions
The restaurant resides in a cellar by the corner of the town square. Taverna has a restaurant side and a bar side. Because it is a cellar the ceiling is low and the atmosphere is murky. The decor is outdated, not in the hipstery retro sense. In the summertime the restaurant has a terrace. The staff is typical Estonian, thin on smiles and not of the most helpful kind, but they will serve you. They have the daily Estonian newspapers for the customers.
The Food
Are you having the hangover of the century? Is your stomach shouting for greasy food? Do you just feel like grabbing a takeaway pizza and going home under a pile blankets? When the leftover vegetable soup in the fridge is just not enough, Taverna is the solution to all your problems! The pizzas are just wonderfully greasy, with a thick crust and lots of delicious cheese. You can get the pizzas in three different sizes: 500, 800 and 1200 g. Even the smallest pizza is usually more than enough. The restaurant has a small menu with other dishes, but the pizzas are what you go there for. The prices are cheap, ranging from the smallest pizzas costing around 5 euros to the biggest ones around 12 euros.
Bokkila ordered:
Hot sun - This pizza contains chicken, salami, chili, garlic, smoked cheese and regular cheese. It is meaty, spicy and the garlic comes nicely through. This is the perfect pizza to satisfy all of your hangover needs. 5/5
Italian Style Pizza - The ingredients include cherry tomatoes, parmesan, rucola, and aioli sauce. The rucola and tomatoes are fresh, which makes this pizza a bit different from the others. There is still plenty of greasy cheese, but also a hint of freshness. This pizza has nothing in common with the Italian pizza, but that is not what you are after anyways when having the headache of your life. 4/5
